As GHI, we advice youth who cannot abstain from sex to make smart choices like using condoms to prevent HIV/AIDs.
Condoms, when used correctly and consistently, are highly effective in preventing HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
A large body of scientific evidence shows that male latex condoms have an 80% or greater protective effect against
the sexual transmission of HIV and other STIs.
Condoms are a key component of comprehensive HIV prevention. GHI supports a combination of approaches to prevent the sexual
transmission of HIV, including correct and consistent condom use, reduction in the number of sexual partners, HIV testing and counselling as well as delaying sexual debut.
This project is majorly aimed at green economic activities “environmental conservation”.
This programme is aimed at supporting families to be able to take good care of children from their biological settings. FSP programmes aims to prevent children from losing parental care, protect and care for their children and strengthening the safety mesh for vulnerable children and their families within the community.
This campaign aims to promote information on sexual and reproductive health, including HIV, among young people in Uganda. The campaign aims at encouraging youth to know their HIV status.
Under Child Parenting Mentorship Programme, we reach out to families so as to create awareness regarding proper child parenting. This is carried out through holding dialogues in families and different public places to inform parents of their immeasurable contribution towards moral and emotional build up of their children, a prerequisite to building a peaceful, dedicated, morally upright and motivated future generation.
“Kola Youth Unleash” is an initiative aimed at imparting skills among youths in Uganda. Since we believe that youths in Uganda are highly motivated and can be successful when given a right opportunity, we take initiative to empower and train the youths such as school dropouts thus helping them to set up micro-enterprises for self employment with adequate income generation. Through support from esteemed partners, “Kola Youth Unleash” provides empowerment, training and assessment services to around 50 youths in Entebbe area alone, however with widened resource scope, we anticipate to elevate our reach to over 10,000 youths in the next 2 years across Wakiso, Mpigi and Mukono Districts. Our range of activities include; empowerment, Sourcing, Assessment, Skill training and skill development.
“OyimiriddeOtya” is a Luganda phrase literally meaning “What is your stand?” It was adopted for its captivating meaning as regards finding out. In this context, the project stands to clarify the absolute need for youths to find out their status amidst the escalating rate of HIV/AIDs prevalence in Uganda. There are various avenues of HIV/AIDs infections in Uganda thus GHI aims to curb the scourge through collaborative working with volunteering organisations to foster Voluntary Counselling and Testing. These include; Marie Stoppes, TASO, MildMay Uganda and AAR among others.
Under Your Choice Your Destiny Programme, we implement comprehensive behavioral change communication interventions for instance; working with volunteers/peer educators at schools (peer to peer), mentorship programs, making use of role models and inspirational speakers, establishing strategic collaborations with other actors working in the field of SRH, use of television, radio and online media, entertainment, and drama to communicate issues concerning youth sexuality and well-being. We build skills and reach out to other young people and encourage them to positively enjoy the aspects of their sexuality.
